The council expressed, in a statement, “its deep regret at the persistence of the Islah Party militia and the coalition of aggression to use civilians as human shields, not to open safe humanitarian corridors for civilians to cross, and to try to use them as a pressure card before the international community and organizations with the aim of stopping the advance of the army and popular committees.”
The Council held “the coalition of aggression and its mercenaries criminally responsible in the event that civilians suffer any harm that may be caused to them as a result of using human shields by placing them in camps in military areas where clashes are taking place on the outskirts of the city of Marib.”
The Council called on the international community and human rights organizations to “intervene to put an end to the practices of the coalition of aggression and its mercenaries, spare civilians and displaced people the woes and consequences of the battles and not use them as human shields and open safe passages for their exit and security.”
The Houthis launched their campaign to control Marib, about 120 km east of the capital, Sanaa, about a year ago and intensified their attacks in recent days.
