The president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldívar, affirmed that, without a doubt, the promotion of gender equality and the commitment to transform the lives of people and the most vulnerable groups of society They are the greatest achievements of his tenure.
“In these four years we are committed to substantive equality, which places people on a fair level of opportunities; that level the playing field and eliminate the barriers, obstacles and inertia that maintain a division between oppressed and privileged people”.
When presenting his fourth annual work report as head of the Federation’s Judiciary, an event attended by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and Senators, Santiago Creel and Alejandro Armenta, respectively, he said to deliver ” a renewed, upright, modern, professional and humane Judiciary. That responds with results”.
From his point of view, “for the vast majority of the people, justice is nothing more than an empty word” because “access to courts that resolve their disputes and defend their rights” is “an unfulfilled promise.”

He recounted that four years ago it was decided to make the Public Defender an engine of structural change, with the capacity to bring federal justice closer to all people, especially those who have historically been forgotten by the judicial systems.
“Today we have a quality public defender’s office, with people’s lawyers who reach all corners of the country, and which has become a national and international reference in the protection of the human rights of the most vulnerable people.”
The current Judiciary, he assured, renders accounts with hard data, resists the onslaught of real factors of power and preserves its independence with deeds, and not with words.
“With sentences, and not with speeches. Above all, and above all, we deliver justice committed to the rights of the most vulnerable people in Mexico. Because all public power emanates from the people and is for their benefit. Exercising it for one’s own benefit, for the benefit of the ruling elites, or for the applause of a few, is profoundly immoral”.
The members of the Judiciary believed in a different kind of justice, which society could claim as its own, he said.
“A justice close to the people and motor of social change”.
Zaldívar considered that the great current challenge is to reduce poverty, end inequality and achieve social justice.
“For this reason, in the Federal Judiciary we are breaking down barriers, removing obstacles, shortening gaps. We work so that justice is no longer a privilege of the elites. So that it reaches all people. So that it reaches, above all, the poorest people in this country”.
