Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has said that Saudi Arabia must reduce arms expenditures if it is to sit with Iran at the dialogue table.
Zarif’s statement came during an interview with Iranian Channel 2 this evening, Sunday.
He added that “Saudi Arabia was counting on Trump, and after his departure from power, it resorted to Israel,” stressing that “Saudi Arabia hinders any negotiations between Iran and the countries of the region because it is counting on the outside.”
He continued, “We suggest to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the Emirates and the rest of the countries of the region to sit at one table under the supervision of the United Nations.”
Zarif pointed out that “Iran is not negotiating with the West over regional affairs. Rather, it is ready for dialogue with countries in the region itself.”
Speaking about the Iran nuclear deal, Zarif asserted that “Iran is the one who imposes the conditions for returning to the agreement, not the United States.”
He pointed out that “the ball of the nuclear agreement is not in the Iranian court, and America must fulfill its obligations first,” stressing that “Iran is in no hurry to return Washington to the nuclear agreement.”
On his country’s position on the Yemeni crisis, Zarif said, “Iran’s initiative to solve the crisis is still on the table, and that the visit of the UN envoy in Yemen to Tehran has nothing to do with the recent US position on the war on Yemen.”
He added, “Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made a mistake when he thought that he would defeat the Yemenis within three weeks, as 6 years have passed since his illusions of defeating Yemen.”
