Zero impunity allows 8,312 people to be arrested and 501,000 fentanyl pills to be seized

The Zero Impunity policy applied by the Government of Mexico to prosecute and punish crimes has resulted in the arrest of 8,312 people, as well as the seizure of 501,000 fentanyl pills and 1,741 kilograms of methamphetamine.

This was reported by the Undersecretary of Public Security of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, at the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

He highlighted that from October 18 to 24, in different operations carried out by the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA), in coordination with the National Guard (GN), 32 people were captured, who were seized weapons, ballistic equipment and drugs.

In Guachochi, Chihuahua, they arrested 12 generators of violence and located two bodies; 16 long weapons, grenade launchers and tactical vests were seized.

There were also operations in Reynosa, Tamaulipas; Caborca, Sonora, and Culiacán, Sinaloa, where 4,400 fentanyl pills were confiscated.

He said that the actions of SEDENA and GN also took place in San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz; Tijuana Baja California; as well as in Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. In these last two cities, 68 long weapons, vehicles and real estate were seized.

There were operations in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, where one person was arrested with 1,700 kilos of methamphetamine, while in Baja California another four: in Tecate, two were captured with 41 kilos of the same drug and in Tijuana, two more were arrested with 36.3 kilos of fentanyl powder and 496 thousand 600 in pills.

Mejía Berdeja commented that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) extradited three people who were required in different courts of the United States, accused of assault and sexual abuse against a minor, criminal association, crimes against health and money laundering.

He referred to the arrest of Pedro, alias “El Sobrino”, material and intellectual author of the multi-homicide in the “El Pantano” bar, in Irapuato, Guanajuato. For these facts, Cristopher Alexis “N” was also captured.

In addition, he mentioned that Nicias “N”, former director of Public Works of the Benito Juárez mayor’s office, was linked to a process with preventive detention in a private home for health reasons, who is accused of different crimes, such as illicit enrichment.

The defendant and Luis “N”, former Legal Director, were part of an organization of public servants accused of carrying out acts of real estate corruption.

He reported that the femicide of the searcher Esmeralda “N” was clarified. Christopher “N”, alias “El Cris”, and Ismael “N”, alias “El Pa” or “El Oreo”, were arrested and linked to the process.

The official presented results for operations of the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR) at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM). When carrying out an inspection with a canine binomial to a load of shampoo, conditioner and creams, weighing 8 thousand 368 kilograms, methamphetamines and cocaine were found, which were destined for Australia.

In addition, Semar seized 1,318 kilograms of cocaine 150 nautical miles southeast of Huatulco, Oaxaca.

So far this year, he added, 23,390 kilograms of cocaine and 9,457 kilograms of methamphetamine have been seized.

He gave an account of the search carried out by SEDENA, GN and the FGR of a warehouse in Ocotlán, Jalisco, where they seized 13 firearms, including Barrett rifles, machine guns and handguns; steel stars to puncture tires, ballistic vests and armored vehicles.

Regarding the murder of Salvador Llamas, in a restaurant in Jalisco, the official explained that by presidential instruction and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, from the first moment there has been communication with Governor Enrique Alfaro.

Likewise, it presented relevant sentences obtained by the Sonora prosecutor’s office against Miguel Ángel “N”, alias “El Mike”, and Armando “N”, alias “El Pollo”, for the murder of Luis Urbano, defender of the water of the Yaqui people. They were each sentenced to 28 years and one month in prison.

Also in Sonora, Andrés Humberto “N” and Rafael Eduardo “N” were sentenced to 75 years in prison for the crime of aggravated kidnapping committed in August 2021, in Nogales.

Other convictions were obtained in Veracruz. Analleli “N”, Laura “N” and Adolfo “N” received 80 years in prison for the crime of kidnapping committed in Coatepec; Meanwhile, William “N” was sentenced to 68 years in prison for the murder of Samara Aurora “N”.

Mejía released cases of resolved femicides. In total there are 29 detainees
in Aguascalientes, Chiapas, Coahuila, Quintana Roo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Guerrero, New Leon, Michoacán, Veracruz, Morelos, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa and Jalisco.

In relation to the murder of the journalist Lourdes Mendoza, in Tijuana, Baja California, the undersecretary highlighted that the sentence for 20 years in prison against Kevin “N” and Erik Eduardo “N” was achieved; and 24 years for Guillermo “N”, alias “El Junior”.
