No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev will face Lorenzo Sonego in the first round of the China Open on Friday, with the match scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET. Taking place at the Capital Group Diamond Court in Beijing, the contest sees Zverev enter with a dominant 5-0 career record against his opponent.
Zverev, who maintains his world No. 3 ranking, competes in a newly reshuffled ATP landscape following the U.S. Open. Carlos Alcaraz has officially returned to the No. 1 spot after defeating Jannik Sinner in the final at Flushing Meadows, ending Sinner’s 65-week tenure at the top. After reaching the semifinals, 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic also climbed three spots to No. 4.
In the WTA Tour, Aryna Sabalenka solidified her No. 1 ranking by winning her second consecutive U.S. Open title. Runner-up Amanda Anisimova surged five places to a career-high No. 4 as a result of her performance. Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff hold the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Naomi Osaka also made a significant leap, returning to the top 20 at No. 14 following her run to the semifinals.
The Zverev-Sonego match will be broadcast on the Tennis Channel.
