Signe Gaupset scored a stunning brace as Norway came from behind to defeat Iceland in the final Group A match of the Women’s Euros. Elsewhere, hosts Switzerland faced Finland in a crucial match to determine the second team to advance to the knockout stages.
In a dramatic start, Iceland took a surprise early lead against the group leaders. Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir found the net with a close-range finish, a goal that was confirmed after a brief VAR review for a potential offside.
However, Iceland’s advantage was short-lived. Norway responded within minutes when Signe Gaupset connected with a corner, firing a powerful first-time volley past the goalkeeper to level the score.
Following the equalizer, Norway asserted control of the match. Elisabeth Terland nearly put her side ahead, but her shot from inside the area was saved by Cecilía Rán Rúnarsdóttir. The sustained pressure eventually led to the winning goal. Gaupset collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a precise, powerful strike into the bottom corner to complete the comeback.
In the concurrent fixture between Switzerland and Finland, both sides created notable chances. Switzerland’s Sydney Schertenleib tested goalkeeper Anna Koivunen with a dangerous 20-yard shot that was parried to safety. Finland’s best opportunity fell to Oona Sevenius, whose header forced a sharp reaction save from Swiss keeper Livia Peng.
