Mika Amonsen has been cast as a series regular in the upcoming CBS drama Boston Blue, the anticipated offshoot of Blue Bloods. He will portray Sean Reagan, the youngest son of Danny Reagan, a role previously played by Andrew Terraciano throughout the original series’ 14-season run. Amonsen joins star Donnie Wahlberg, who reprises his role as Danny.
The recasting supports a new creative direction for the character. In Boston Blue, Sean has relocated to the city to begin his career as a Boston PD patrolman. Seeking to build his own legacy within his family’s law enforcement tradition, he chose to join a department outside of his native New York. This narrative also provides a key reason for his father’s move, setting the stage for the father and son to reconnect on a deeper level.
Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan after he leaves the NYPD and accepts a position with the Boston PD. There, he is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, the eldest daughter of a prominent local law enforcement family.
In the original Blue Bloods, Sean’s journey through high school and into college was a recurring storyline, with his career path left open-ended. The new series will explore his decision to become a police officer. Besides Danny, Sean is the first member of the Reagan family confirmed for the spinoff, though guest appearances from other characters are considered likely.
Amonsen, Wahlberg, and Martin-Green are joined by series regulars Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.
Production on Boston Blue recently began, with the series slated to premiere this fall in the former Blue Bloods time slot of Friday at 10 PM. The show is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television. Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serve as showrunners and executive producers, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg. Amonsen’s recent credits include Prime Video’s Reacher and the horror film Thanksgiving, and he will next appear in Corin Hardy’s Whistle.
