Despite a mixed reception from fans since his arrival from Wolves, Pedro Neto has become an integral part of Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea. His strong performances have now attracted significant interest from FC Barcelona, one of Chelsea’s upcoming opponents.
According to reports from Fichajes, Neto is a central focus of Barcelona’s transfer strategy. However, the Spanish club faces a major obstacle in Chelsea’s firm valuation of the player. The London club is reportedly demanding a fee exceeding €80 million, an amount that is currently beyond Barcelona’s financial reach without first sanctioning significant player sales.
Neto’s high price tag is justified by his importance to Chelsea’s system. This season, he has scored four goals and provided two assists in 16 appearances across all competitions. Beyond his direct goal contributions, the Portuguese winger’s pace and skill on the ball are vital to the team’s counter-attacks. His ability to play in several different positions offers an added tactical advantage.
Complicating his future at Stamford Bridge is the rise of highly-touted Brazilian prospect Estevao, who many believe is ready for a consistent starting role on the right flank. While Neto is unlikely to accept a rotational position, his versatility means he could be deployed on the opposite wing, where the team does not have an established starter.
