Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is counting on Luis Díaz’s energy to drive the team to victory against Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Kompany also expressed his hope that the forward will receive a minimum suspension for his recent red card in the UEFA Champions League.
The league leaders’ 10-game winning streak was halted by a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin in the previous round, which reduced their lead at the top of the table. The team is now motivated to re-establish its dominance as it prepares to host Freiburg.
Díaz returns to the club with momentum, having scored for Colombia against Australia during the international break. Kompany highlighted the player’s relentless drive ahead of the match on Saturday, November 22.
“For him, workload management is unthinkable. He has to bring us his energy,” Kompany stated. “The players are coming into the Freiburg match with a lot of energy. We want to win and are not yet thinking about Arsenal.”
The Colombian star will be unavailable for the club’s next Champions League match after being sent off for a foul on Achraf Hakimi during the 2-1 away victory over PSG, a game in which Díaz scored both of Bayern’s goals.
“My understanding is that he is suspended for one match,” Kompany added. “I don’t know when it will be announced, but I would be disappointed if my information was incorrect.”
Díaz has been instrumental for Bayern this season, ranking as the team’s second-highest scorer with six goals and its leading assist provider with four.
