Lizzo has recently emphasized that her approach to health and fitness is centered on overall well-being rather than conforming to external expectations.
In a May 2023 TikTok video, the “Good as Hell” singer explained that her initial motivation for exercising was mental clarity. “Once I started working out for mental health, to have balanced mental health or endorphins, so that I don’t look at myself in the mirror and feel ashamed of myself… exercise has helped me shift my mind, not my body,” she shared.
More recently, in a January 2024 post, Lizzo confirmed she was on an “intentional weight loss journey” with the goal of becoming the best version of herself. She candidly addressed public perception, noting that her personal goals are detached from conventional standards.
“Even at the end of my weight loss journey, I’m not going to be considered thin by any means,” Lizzo stated. “I will still be considered morbidly obese on the BMI and little bros on the internet are still going to call me ‘big backed.’ But I will be happy.”
In the same video, she celebrated a significant milestone, revealing a 16 percent reduction in her body fat and a 10.5-point drop in her Body Mass Index (BMI). Over a clip showing her results, she declared, “And I am happy.”
She concluded with an empowering message for her followers: “Let this be a reminder that you can do anything—anything—you set your mind to. Now I guess it’s time to set new goals.”
