Following his US Open victory over Spain’s Pablo Carreño Busta, Ben Shelton’s post-match press conference took an unexpected and lighthearted turn. The final question of the session came from a familiar face in the crowd: his girlfriend, soccer star Trinity Rodman.
Rodman took the opportunity to playfully tease the tennis pro about his performance. “So,” she began, “how did it feel not being able to serve faster than 135 today?”
Visibly amused, Shelton laughed and buried his face in his hands before jokingly asking an offscreen official, “Why’d you give her a question?”
Rodman pressed on with the joke, adding, “I just know you like to serve big, and it wasn’t breaking 140 today.”
In response, Shelton, who is known for a formidable serve that has reached speeds of 150 mph, adopted a serious expression and answered the playful critique from his girlfriend.
