2K has agreed an exclusive long-term partnership with Tiger Woods, and will acquire HB Studios, the development team behind The Golf Club franchise and PGA Tour 2K21.
One of the world’s most recognizable golfers, the deal will afford 2K the rights to Woods’ name and likeness. He will appear exclusively in PGA Tour 2K and any other golf games produced by the company over the course of the multi-year partnership. Woods will also serve as an Executive Director and consultant on upcoming PGA Tour 2K games, taking an active role in game development.

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen,” said Tiger Woods. “I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”
The release notes that HB Studios’ latest release PGA Tour 2K21 has sold “nearly two million units,” and that the studio will be wholly-owned by 2K when the acquisition closes in the first quarter of 2021. The financial terms of the acquisition deal or the Tiger Woods exclusivity deal were not disclosed.
Similarly, 2K revealed a partnership with OneTeam Partners and the National Football League Players Association in July of 2020 to include “football’s most prominent star players” in future NFL 2K games. Here’s our review of PGA Tour 2K21, which we scored a 7, calling it “the most flexible and enjoyable game of golf since the Tiger Woods series was at its peak.”
