The United Nations announced, on Friday, that 3 Burundian soldiers belonging to the peacekeepers were killed in an attack by “unknown fighters” in the Central African Republic.
The United Nations said in a statement that the attack also wounded two other soldiers.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, strongly condemned the attacks launched by unknown armed men on the national defense and security forces and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.
The attacks come a day after the main rebel groups canceled the ceasefire ahead of the national elections scheduled for next Sunday.
Armed groups calling themselves the “Alliance of Patriots for Change” said in a statement: “In the face of the stubbornness of the government, which rejected the ceasefire, we decided to stop the 72-hour truce and resume our march towards achieving the final goal.”
