At least 5 people were killed and 2 wounded, after shooting that extended from Chicago to Evanston on Saturday, in the United States of America.
“CBD” said that a 30-year-old student at the University of Chicago was among the victims who were killed, and another victim was a woman who was shot after being taken hostage, according to Evanston Police.
Police have identified the suspect as Jason Nightingale, 32. Officials said Nightingale was also killed after an exchange of fire with police.
Just before 2 p.m. local time, a UCSD student was shot dead in a parking garage at the Regent’s Park Apartment complex in Building 5300 off S Street.
Officials said in a statement to the university community, that the university had been notified that a student was found in a car with a gunshot wound.
The university issued a statement saying: “This is very painful news for the university community and our southern neighborhood. The university will provide support to members of our community affected by this incident.”
A few minutes later, Nightingale entered the foyer of an apartment block at 4900 off S. East End Avenue and asked a woman to use the phone.
A neighbor said, “He went to the building … I think she told him he should leave the building and then shot her. She tried to escape but he shot her again.”
“CBD” said that a 77-year-old woman, who was inside the building retrieving mail, was also injured.
Police said a woman, who was shot in the chest, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The other woman was taken to the same hospital in a critical condition.
Nightingale then drew his gun on a man, whom police said he knew, and pushed him to an apartment at Mall 5000 on S. East End Avenue around 2:45 p.m. He claimed the victim’s car keys. Then, head to a nearby garage to locate the car.
About an hour later, Chicago police said Nightingale entered a retail establishment in Building 9300 of South Halstead Street.
Then he announced a robbery, before shooting a 20-year-old man in the head. The victim was transferred to Christ Hospital, where he later died. An 81-year-old victim was also shot in the back and neck. Police said she was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.
After that, Nightingale fled the scene at around 5 p.m. He fired from an unknown location, hitting a 15-year-old girl in the head while she was sitting in the back seat of her mother’s car in Building 10300 of South Halstead Street. The teen was said to be in critical condition at Komer Children’s Hospital, but her mother was unharmed.
A short time later, police said, Nightingale returned to the scene of the robbery at 9300 Block of S. Halsted where he fired shots, hit a Chicago police car, and after an exchange of fire he was liquidated.
