The widow of a wealthy man from the city of Mansoura in northern Egypt was surprised that her husband divorced her 14 years ago and lived with her without knowing her divorce until his death.
The husband deposited the divorce slip for his wife in his private locker, and hid from her that he had divorced her and lived with her until he died.
The Egyptian newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that “the wife was shocked when she opened his closet after his death, and found the divorce document that stated that he had divorced her from the first year.”
The wife applied to the Mansoura Civil Status Court and demanded her inheritance right because her husband had cheated on her for 14 years.
But her husband’s children objected to her and said that “the Sharia cannot recognize her as an heir, and it is proven that she has been divorced for 14 years.”
After the pleadings, the court ruled that the divorce, which was proven in one word, the husband can withdraw from it without an analyst and appointed a guard over the estate of the deceased and referred the case to prove that the wife returned to him after the divorce.
