CNN said that a group of Republican lawmakers may try to challenge the results of the US presidential election, during its passage in Congress on January 6.
The channel quoted two Republican lawmakers as saying that they expect about 140 of their fellow party members in the House of Representatives and several senators to make such an attempt.
According to the channel, “Republican congressmen loyal to President Donald Trump have almost no chance to change the outcome” of this event.
The television channel confirms that the President of the Republican majority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, calls on his fellow members of the party in the Senate not to attempt to challenge the results of the presidential elections.
On January 6, a joint meeting of both Houses of Congress will approve the results of the vote in the Electoral College. Under current rules, lawmakers can oppose approval of the results of a state’s electorate.
