French President Emmanuel Macron defended his decision to postpone imposing a general lockdown for the third time, saying that he believes in the ability of the French to curb Corona under fewer restrictions.
And from tomorrow, Sunday, France will close its borders to everyone except for those traveling to and from countries outside the European Union, while arrivals from within the bloc will have to show evidence that they are not infected with the Coronavirus.
Major shopping centers will be closed and police patrols will be increased to enforce curfews from 6 pm.
But Macron did not impose new public isolation measures during the day, saying he wanted to see first whether other measures would be sufficient to slow the spread of the Corona virus.
“Trust us. These hours we are living are crucial. Let’s do our best to slow the epidemic together,” he wrote on Twitter.
France recorded 24,393 new cases of Covid-19 today, Saturday, while the number of hospitalized patients exceeded 27,000 for the fifth consecutive day.
