NAPLES, Fla. – An 18-year-old was arrested around 6 a.m. Saturday accused of breaking into a deaf man’s car while he was inside and stealing a key fob from him, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Israel Estrada of Naples is facing a felony charge of unarmed robbery after a man told deputies the teen broke into his car while he was sleeping in it near Naples Pizza in the Berkshire Commons parking lot on Radio Road.
According to the arrest report, the man who was robbed is hearing impaired and said he was sleeping in his car when Estrada opened the driver’s side door and fought with him before grabbing a car key fob that was attached to his pants with a carabineer.
The man drove away to a nearby 7-Eleven and rushed inside to get help, deputies said. He was left with a laceration above his left eye after the scuffle.
When deputies arrived to investigate the deaf man recognized Estrada walking near the gas station, according to the arrest report.
Deputies detained the 18-year-old and found the key fob near the Wells Fargo bank in the same plaza.
The man wrote a statement for police describing the incident.
Estrada confessed to the incident and was taken to the Naples Jail Center, according to CCSO.
