The Brazilian pharmaceutical company, Uniao Quimica, has asked the Brazilian Health Supervision Agency to approve the import of an additional quantity of “Sputnik V” vaccine, for use in emergency situations.
The company said that, on January 15, it, together with the Russian Direct Investment Fund, registered a request with the Brazilian Health Supervision Agency (Anvisa), for the temporary use of 10 million doses of the Russian “Sputnik V” anti-corona virus vaccine in Brazil.
The company indicated that it plans to obtain the mentioned amount of the Russian vaccine in the first quarter of this year.
Under the agreement with the Russian Fund on Technology Transfer, Uniao Quimica will launch the production of the “Sputnik V” vaccine, at its factories in Brasilia and Guarulhos (São Paulo state).
At the end of December, Uniao Quimica submitted a request to the relevant authorities, to obtain approval to conduct a third phase of clinical trials on “Sputnik V”, which is a prerequisite for approval for the use of the drug in Brazil.
