A local police statement said that the accident, which required a “special rescue”, took place on December 23 on the railway linking the cities of Kassel in the state of Hesse and Göttingen in the state of Lower Saxony.
The story began when two pelicans wandered through the high-speed rail area, and one of the birds happened to be tunneled, presumably electrocuted by an electric current. The other bird did not want to leave the place, and repeated attempts to remove it from the dangerous place were unsuccessful.
Ultimately, firefighters came from the town of Foldathal in the state of Hesse to rescue the bird with the help of special equipment.
“Due to the rescue operation, 23 trains were delayed by about 50 minutes,” the statement said, and the swan was released at a later time on the Fulda River.
