A social media post went viral after so many people were shocked to discover that they had tiny holes in their eyelids, and no one knew what their purpose was really.
A video posted on the Reddit blog explains the purpose of the two fuzzy openings that can be found in the inner corners of each eye on the lash line. Many readers admit that they had never before known that these holes existed.

These small holes are known as the lacrimal point, which is a tiny opening at the tops of the lacrimal papillae, seen at the edge of the eyelids at the lateral end of the lacrimal lake.
And this tear point, in fact, drains fluid away from our eyes, and the tears are funneled through a canal into the nose, where they can be reabsorbed, which explains why we get runny nose when we cry a lot.
More clearly, the small opening mainly helps drain any excess fluid left by the tears, which will eventually drain out of the nose.
The post garnered hundreds of comments on the Reddit platform, leaving many people very confused by this fact, and many admitted that the information was shocking to them. One user wrote: “Today I learned that the cause of a runny nose after crying is that the remaining fluid that has not shed through the tears is discharged through the nose through the tear point (that strange, mysterious opening on your lower eyelid).”
Another user said, “I studied human anatomy for three years at university, and it didn’t even occur to me.”
The video, which was also posted on WATOP on YouTube, explains: “All of our tears that did not have time to fall on our cheeks get there. There is a nasolacrimal duct, through which the fluid drains into the nose and then everything becomes clear. Yes, thanks. The teardrops, it’s impossible to cry without all the mucus. “
