Hamas, the terrorist group responsible for killing numerous innocent Israelis, received applause at a left-wing event during the Labour conference. The event, which commemorated the Nakba or ‘catastrophe’ that led to the creation of the Jewish state, saw the audience applauding the violent acts committed by Hamas. One speaker at the event expressed her honor to speak at such a momentous occasion. The event, held at The World Transformed festival, was attended by over 100 people and was not officially affiliated with the Labour party. Yasmin Elsouda, an activist from the Palestinian Youth Movement, spoke at the event and described the attacks on Palestinians by Israeli authorities that preceded the violence in Gaza. She mentioned that over 230 Palestinians had died at the hands of the Israeli government and accused them of calling for genocide. Elsouda praised the Palestinian resistance and condemned the Israeli government’s actions. Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour party, condemned the “appalling” atrocities in Israel and faced pressure to take action against Labour members and activists who support Hamas. The Conservative party insisted that Labour hasn’t changed, despite mixed signals from some members of the party. Suella Braverman, the Home Secretary, warned that those supporting Hamas or intimidating Jews in Britain would face the full force of the law. The government is taking steps to protect Jewish communities and has a zero tolerance policy towards anti-Semitism and the glorification of terrorism. The police will use the full extent of the law against displays of support for Hamas or other terrorist groups.
