Recife (Brazil), Jul 5 (.).- The Spanish airport manager Aena (BME:), with operations in several countries, will invest 1,400 million reais (259.2 million dollars) for the remodeling of the six Brazilian airports that administers in the northeast of the country, informed the regional government of Pernambuco on Tuesday.
“We are overcoming a global health crisis, which has affected movement at all airports too much. But Pernambuco is already recovering its capacity and expanding movement at Guararapes airport,” said Governor Paulo Cámara after a meeting with the CEO of Aena , Maurice Lucena.
Aena’s investments will be carried out with remodeling works planned until 2023 to increase the “capacity and security” of the six airports, including Recife, the capital of Pernambuco and one of the five busiest in the country, highlighted the President of Aena Brazil, Santiago Yus.
Aena Brazil manages, by public tender, the airports of the regional capitals Recife, Maceió, Aracajú and Joao Pessoa, as well as those of Campina Grande (Paraíba) and Juazeiro do Norte (Ceará).
In addition to the announcement by the Spanish multinational, Cámara indicated that Pernambuco will continue “investing heavily in regional aviation, remodeling the terminals in the interior of the state,” in cities such as Caruarú and Petrolina, among others.
The regional Secretary of Tourism, Milú Megale, pointed out that Recife already has “more flights than before the pandemic” due to covid-19 and, with the “new works”, “more international flights will be attracted until the end of the year “, when it is expected to also resume the direct flight to Argentina.
