The Screen Actors Association and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are seeking to punish former US President Donald Trump, despite his withdrawal from the association.
According to the association’s president, actress Gabrielle Carrice, Trump “escaped” the day before the disciplinary hearing over his potential violation of the League’s constitution.
Carteres believes Trump wanted to bypass the measure, and as a result, the union leadership decided to introduce additional measures that would not allow the former president to become a member of the association again.
Earlier, the Association ordered a disciplinary hearing regarding Trump’s possible violation of its constitution, and this move was approved by an overwhelming majority by union council members.
The council acted on accusations, including those related to the former president’s role in storming the US Capitol, and its support for a disinformation campaign “aimed at discrediting journalists and ultimately threatening their safety,” including members of the Screen Actors Association.
The Screen Actors Association is a trade union association that represents around 160,000 actors, journalists and broadcasters, and Trump joined it as a member in 1989.
For his part, Trump sent a letter to Carteres on February 4, announcing his resignation from the organization (the League), and adding that he does not care about decisions that may be taken during the disciplinary session.
