Political analysts said that the United States has become stuck in the Israeli war on… Gaza stripIt is trying to force Arab countries to participate in repairing what the occupation destroyed under the pretext of maintaining the security of the region.
Despite the steadfast American support for Israel and its agreement with it on the necessity of ending the resistance militarily, there are differences between the two parties regarding the method of implementation, says the senior researcher at the Al Jazeera Center for Studies, Dr. Liqaa Makki.
During his participation in the program “Gaza… What Next?”, Makki said that US Secretary of State Anthony BlinkenDuring his last tour in the region, he tried to find a Middle Eastern approach to ending the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation), militarily and maintain it as a political actor.
Ending resistance in other ways
Makki said that the United States is currently working to achieve what Israel was unable to achieve militarily, under the pretext of saving the people of Gaza and maintaining the security of the region, noting that Tel Aviv It is satisfied with this move, but it continues the political blackmail by escalating the aggression.
Political analyst Wadih Awawdeh agreed with the previous opinion, saying that Washington is identical with Israel in terms of the goals of the war, but it actually differs from it regarding the method of achieving them.
Awawda said that Blinken’s “miserable” visit to the region carried a number of goals, including pushing Israel into a new phase of the war that is less violent and allows the return of residents to the northern Gaza Strip and the entry of more aid.
On the other hand, the former official in the US Department of Defense says:Pentagon) Yasmine Al-Jamal The only new thing that Blinken came out with during his recent tour was the agreement to bring a UN committee into the northern Gaza Strip to evaluate the possibility of residents returning to it.
But Al-Gamal noted that the mechanism for implementing this agreement is still unknown, and “therefore it cannot be said that there is a real change in the American position,” noting that Washington is “trying to make Israel understand – in closed rooms – the fact that expanding the scope of the war and continuing the destruction operations They do not serve American interests, and these are attempts to which Tel Aviv has not shown any compliance so far.”
Mutual pressure
And about the pressure operations exerted by the American administration on the government Benjamin NetanyahuMakki said that there is no pressure in the real sense, adding that “the war is not a purely Israeli decision, but rather an American-Western decision,” stressing that everyone still wants to continue the fighting.
Contrary to what some people believe, Makki believes that Netanyahu is the one putting pressure on the Biden administration after he tightened his grip on it, pointing out that Washington currently “cannot get out of Israel’s grip, and if it does, Biden may not be able to continue his election campaign.”
However, Al-Gamal saw that Washington did not use its strong pressure cards to force Israel to stop its method of war, even though it was not satisfied with this method.
She went on to confirm that Biden is in a critical position because he is concerned about supporting Israel in the upcoming elections, and at the same time he did not expect this significant decline in his popularity among American Muslims, who explicitly announced that they would not vote for him, “even though they do not see a quarter of what is happening on the ground because of ignoring… “America has its politicians and its media.”
From this standpoint, the Biden team is “trying to put pressure on Israel without losing the support of its American allies in the elections,” says Al-Gamal.
Searching for Arab concessions
Regarding what Blinken wants from the Arab countries, Makki said that the American minister works with the logic that every normal step requires a round of Arab and Palestinian concessions in order to convince Israel to take it.
But the most dangerous thing – according to Makki – is that Blinken is putting pressure on countries in the region, especially those who are believed to have influence with the resistance, such as Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, to force Hamas to make concessions.
Makki added, “America is verbally more enthusiastic than the Arabs about bringing food into the Gaza Strip, and I fear that some Arab countries will put real pressure on Hamas to agree to stop the war and perhaps to disarm.”
He concluded that the next stage “will be a difficult stage of biting fingers in light of the collapse of the central Arab states and the difficult economic situation that Egypt is experiencing.”
On the other hand, Al-Gamal believes that the Arab countries refuse to bear the costs of repairing what Israel destroyed, as evidenced by the fact that the UAE refused to pay the salaries of Palestinian workers in Gaza, adding, “What Blinken is trying to do is to convince the countries of the region that it is not in anyone’s interest for the conflict to expand and to persuade them to participate in building construction.” Gaza and stopping the war, and the results remain to be seen.”
Al-Gamal concluded that the current crisis is that there is an Israeli popular desire to continue the war after the shock of October 7.
As for Awawda, he believes that Biden is weak in the face of Netanyahu, who is exercising “impudence” in dealings, expressing his belief that the only way out for Washington currently is “for Benny Gantz to form a new, less extremist war government, because there is an agreement to continue the war, but in different ways.”
