Israelis expressed – on social media – their objection to the financial grant that their government allocated to reserve soldiers who were called to declare war on Gaza stripThey called for protests and demand the overthrow of the government Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel announced the allocation of no less than one billion shekels, or $260 million, for payments and financial grants to reserve soldiers.
The Ministries of Finance and Defense also promised reservists a one-time financial grant of up to $280 for a conscript and an additional $500 for those with children under the age of 14.
In tweets and comments – some of which were quoted in an episode (11/8/2023) of the “Shabakat” program – Israelis on social media mocked this grant, as one of them, called Nita, wrote, “This is a shame. The important thing is that Knesset members and ministers earn tens of thousands every month, and no They are even thinking about transferring the money to those who need it, namely the reservists.”
The so-called Rahmanim accused the Israeli authorities of laughing at people and deceiving them, saying, “Such an amount will not help meet the needs of the month. Let us not talk about the time and heartache that we give at the front!”
Matan commented on the issue of the grant by saying, “We must leave the battlefield to them. Let them fight the millionaires who are amassing it in Europe. We must impose a fait accompli. Without us, they will be killed in the first operation.”
The person called Joe wrote, “They are stealing from us. This is another reason for us to protest, demonstrate, and demand that the entire government be changed. The country is not short of money, but it is full of corrupt people.”
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Finance recorded a budget deficit of $6 billion last October, due to high expenses for financing the war on Gaza. Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that the direct losses of this war amount to $246 million per day, without counting the indirect losses on the economy.
As of 2023, the United States has provided Israel with $158.8 billion worth of military and economic aid, missile programs, and more.
Military society
Israeli society is classified as military. Military service is compulsory for every male and female who has reached the age of 18. Therefore, the number of the army is 173 thousand soldiers in active service, in addition to 465 thousand trained and specialized reserve soldiers who are ready to be called upon when needed. Israel summoned 300,000 of them to join the service immediately.
Among them is Noé Ozerd, who is originally a communications engineer and has a side job as a saxophone player. When he was called to the reserve, he returned to his work as an artillery officer, leading 30 fighters in the deployment areas.
Ozerd posted a photo of his bank account on Facebook after receiving his payments. His salary after a month of fighting amounted to 5,397 shekels ($1,400).
This officer says, “I can’t bear this shame anymore. 10 shekels an hour, 215 shekels a day… Why don’t we get our tax money?”
It is noteworthy that army spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari had announced that Israel had summoned a record number of reserve soldiers, amounting to 300,000 soldiers, as part of the response to the attack by the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation) from the Gaza Strip on multiple fronts.
