The Mexican stock markets closed in negative territory this Monday after a day of volatility, due to a low volume of business with a large part of the main markets abroad closed for the Christmas holiday.
“With few economic references and with the holiday in the United States, the volume of operations was expected to be low, traders will continue to evaluate the news about the situation in Ukraine and China,” said local firm CI Bank.
The leading index S&P/BMV IPC from Mexican stock exchange (BMV), made up of the 35 most liquid shares in the country, fell 0.6% to 50,273.89 points, although earlier it gained 0.27%.
The FTSE BIVAfrom the Institutional Stock Market (It happens), yielded 0.54% to a level of 1,049.73 units.
The titles of the telecommunications tower firm Sitios Latinoamérica, owned by businessman Carlos Slim, led the decline, with 5.19%, to 9.31 pesos, followed by those of the airport operator GAP, which subtracted 2.11%, to 293.40 pesos.
