NAPLES, Fla. – Since they were kids playing in the backyard, Jaden and Hosea Booker have always loved playing football and competing together.
“It’s very competitive. I’m telling you, it’s very competitive,” said Jaden.
But that brotherly bond has now made its way onto the high school football field at Palmetto Ridge ever since Hosea took over the starting quarterback duties this year.
“You can tell they have a unique bond and they’re both phenomenal football players,” said Bears Head Coach Chris Toukonen.
In fact, the two are so competitive they even have a bet this season.
“We made a bet on who could rush for more yards this year,” said Jaden. “And I already know I’m getting that.”
That bet has surged the Bears’ offense off to a hot start, too.
In Friday’s week-two loss to Palmetto Ridge, the Booker brothers combined for all five of Palmetto Ridge’s touchdowns and would have collected a sixth with under a minute to play had the touchdown pass from Hosea to Jaden not been called back for a penalty.
“We’ve been doing this since I was in the 6th grade, the running back, quarterback situation,” said Jaden.
“I know where he is going to be on the field, how deep he runs his routes. It’s pretty obvious,” said Hosea.
That brotherly bond has the Bears in a good spot even if brothers will sometimes be brothers.
“We’re always trash talking. Always trash talking,” admits Hosea.
The Bookers and the Bears continue the 2021 season on Friday night with a road game at Lely.
