The Celtics won last night, but not without suffering a great time. They received at home some Pacers without Malcolm Brogdon or Caris LeVert, but the greens have been immersed in a network of problems since the beginning of the season that they do not understand about rivals, although they arrive depleted. Luckily for them, last night Jayson Tatum got it right when they needed him most to send the game into extra time and solve it by a tight 101-98.
Tatum had a match of contrasts. He had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, but also committed eight losses. He was 0-for-7 in triples, but scored a basket with 1.8 seconds left to force overtime. It was irregular, like most of the course, but at least it avoided the disaster that would have meant falling to Indiana.
“We stayed together until the end of the game. We went through moments of adversity and there were a couple of discussions in the team during the game. We have challenged each other and we have lived up to it, ”says Robert Williams.
The center, who is curdling a new season, finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. It was a good performance, but more shone a Jaylen Brown who contributed 26 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. After the match, Ime Udoka admitted that she kept her stars on track longer than expected. “We kept them a little longer than we thought, but we knew the importance of this match,” says the head coach.
The truth is that they were one breath away from losing. Despite entering the fourth quarter with eight rental points, Indiana rallied and took four points up with 45 seconds to play (85-89) after two free throws by Justin Holiday. Boston, the team to which the greatest differences have been overcome this season, this time knew how to keep calm, reach extra time and win.
Carlisle and the last defense
Rick Carlisle defines the TD Garden experience as a tough defeat in which he believes the last defense of his team could have been better. “We were on our way to doubling down on Tatum’s defense. There was a slight hesitation and he threw over Torrey. Lance was on his way, but he needed to be a bit tougher and have a bit more decision, “he explains about the basket that led the game to extra time.
Triple-double of Sabonis
Domantas Sabonis had a difficult night in attack with a 3 of 12 shooting from the field, but this did not prevent him from completing his performance with a triple-double of 11 points, 23 rebounds and 10 assists. Beyond its deployment, it so happens that the Pacers’ two top scorers came off the bench. Torrey Craig had 19 points, while Lance Stephenson reached 14.
