Rio de Janeiro, Feb 13 (.).- The Brazilian retail giant Americanas, which filed for bankruptcy, acknowledged a higher debt of up to 42.5 billion reais (about 8.173 billion dollars), and a number of creditors superior in an updated list of his obligations that he disclosed this Monday.
In the list, sent to the market and to the Rio de Janeiro court in charge of the process to try to save the company from bankruptcy, the number of creditors of Americanas, which controls Lojas Americanas, one of the largest networks, rises from 7,967 to 9,713. of stores in Brazil.
The value of the debt has increased from 41,235 million reais (about 7,929.8 million dollars) recognized on January 19 to 42,500 million reais (about 8,173 million dollars) calculated in the review made on February 10 .
Important multinational providers stand out on the list, such as Samsung (KS:) (235 million dollars) or Nestlé (SIX:) (50 million dollars), but the most affected are the banks.
The debt with Bradesco (BVMF:), the second largest private bank in the country and the one most affected by the cessation of payments, rose from 923 million dollars to 980.8 million dollars: and that of the state-owned Banco do Brasil (BVMF: ) from $250 million to $307.7 million.
The debt with Santander (BME:) Brazil remained stable at 692.3 million dollars, the same as those subscribed with BTG Pactual (673 million dollars) and Itaú Unibanco (BVMF:) (519.2 million dollars).
The debt with the five largest banks in Brazil rose from 2,519.2 million dollars to 2,923 million dollars, almost a third of the total.
Americanas announced on January 11 that it had identified accounting inconsistencies for close to 3.85 billion dollars, which led to the resignation of the company’s board of directors.
Two weeks later, the company filed the petition for judicial recovery before the Rio Justice, which accepted it immediately.
Judicial recovery, provided for in the bankruptcy law, is a mechanism to avoid bankruptcy and stipulates a period of 180 days, with the possibility of extending it for the same period, to reach an agreement with creditors, a period during which the company you can operate normally without having to pay your debts.
Since the discovery of the accounting hole, the market value of Americanas has plummeted on the Sao Paulo stock market, with negative impacts on the price of creditor sectors such as banks, both public and private, which were left exposed.
Almost all the banks that have disclosed their financial balances in 2022, including Santander and Itaú, announced a significant increase in their provisions for difficult-to-collect debts in the case of Americanas.
