In a statement, the ministry indicated that this amount was mainly collected from Canada, Germany and Japan, and London added 548 million pounds (about 608 million euros), after it promised to provide one British pound for every four dollars raised, pointing out that This amount “will allow the distribution of one billion doses of vaccines against the emerging corona virus in 92 developing countries this year.”
For his part, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: “We will be safe from this virus when we are all safe, so we focus our efforts on a global solution to a global problem.”
He added: “On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, it is natural for the United Kingdom to take an initiative with its allies to put one billion doses of the vaccine against the Corona virus within the reach of the countries exposed to infection.”
This declaration was issued on the first day of a hypothetical visit by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to London, and it will last for three days, to celebrate the anniversary of the United Nations, which held its first meeting in London.
Regarding his visit to London, Guterres stressed during a statement that “at this stage of new international upheavals, he is honored to virtually visit the United Kingdom to celebrate this occasion,” stressing the role of the United Nations in facing challenges, saying: “To renew our cause, which is to overcome together global challenges, Celebrating a country played a crucial role in the creation of the United Nations. “
It is worth noting that the Secretary-General of the United Nations is participating today in a virtual ceremony, and tomorrow, Monday, he will hold a meeting with the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, the Foreign Minister, Dominic Raab, and Alok Sharma, Chairman of the “COP26” climate summit organized by the United Kingdom this year in Glasgow. Tomorrow, he will also attend, with Boris Johnson, the “One Planet Summit” organized by France to revive “green diplomacy” paralyzed by the Coronavirus epidemic.
