Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrives at AIFA for the North American Leaders Summit

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeauarrived in Mexico this Monday afternoon as part of the X Summit of North American Leaders.

The Royal Canadian Air Force plane in which the Canadian president arrived landed at around 2:28 p.m. at the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), as US President Joe Biden arrived last night.

Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire were received at the AIFA by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Beatriz Gutierrez Müller and the head of the Secretariat for Relations, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón.

President López Obrador will host the first summit between the three North American leaders since the end of 2021, which will run until Wednesday.

The Mexican government has scheduled a reception of honor at 6:35 p.m. this Monday for Justin Trudeau at the National Palace, after President López Obrador held a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The T-MEC, energy policies and the automotive sector are some of the central issues that are expected to be addressed during the Summit and the bilateral meetings that will be held.

In energy matters, the United States and Canada have alleged in recent months that their companies have been harmed by López Obrador’s campaign to give control of the market to state energy companies with liquidity problems; the dispute has dulled investment prospects.

Trudeau told Reuters on Friday that he would argue that resolving the energy dispute would help bring more foreign capital to Mexico and was confident of making progress.
