China denounces US protectionism on the electronic chip market

The head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yijudged that the US restrictions on exports of semiconductors made by Chinese companies, were a display of “protectionism” to “100%”.

Those restrictions are “a 100% selfish, 100% one-sided” and they represent a “serious violation of the principle of free trade”, denounced Wang Yi during the Munich Security Conference, criticizing a position “far from free competition”.

These restrictions testify to “a misperception of China” by the United States, according to the diplomat.

“With this perception, the United States uses all its means to suppress and denigrate China and encourages other countries to do the same,” he said.

“We are not afraid of competition, but we want fair competition based on rules. The United States does not,” according to Wang Yi.

In October, the United States, in the name of “national security” announced new export controls, to limit Beijing’s ability to buy and manufacture high-end chips “used in military applications.”

Washington sought to hinder Beijing when it came to develop their own semiconductor industry.

The United States regularly accuses China of industrial espionage and posing a threat to its national security.

China announced in December that it had filed a World Trade Organization (WTO) case against the United States over those restrictions.
