(Trends Wide Spanish) — The long-awaited reunion of Julián Andrés Rosales, an 11-year-old Colombian boy with terminal cancer in the United States, and his father Andrés Fernando Rosales will finally take place this Thursday. A humanitarian visa will allow the minor’s father, who is in Colombia, to travel to Miami to fulfill his son’s wish to see him.
In 2020, Julián Andrés was told that he had Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. The boy, who at the time was living in Cali, Colombia, received chemotherapy at Clínica Valle de Lily. However, “Julián needed specialized treatment and that is why we made the decision to travel to the United States,” his mother, Sindy Catalina Garzón, told Trends Wide.
Currently, the boy is hospitalized at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, where he receives palliative care, as the doctors say that over the days the cancer has spread to other parts of the body and they are not optimistic about his health.
After learning the diagnosis from the specialists treating Julián, the family asked the governments of the United States and Colombia to allow the father to be with his son in these difficult times.
A few days ago, Julián Andrés said that he hoped his father would arrive in the United States quickly so he could hug him and spend as much time as possible with him when he was out of the clinic.
His request was heard: through the mediation of the office of Senator Marco Rubio, the humanitarian visa was obtained so that Andrés Fernando Rosales could travel to Miami to see his son. “I received an email telling me that the United States Customs and Border Protection Office gave me a humanitarian exception to be able to travel,” Rosales told Trends Wide.
Before being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Julián’s passion was soccer. He even came to play in Pony Soccer, a well-known tournament for children’s categories in Colombia. His story, which has moved many, reached the ears of the player of the Colombian National Team and Olympiacos of Greece, James Rodríguez, who sent him a message of encouragement. “A lot of strength, a lot of relief and a lot of strength that everything will be fine. A very big hug and God bless you, ”he told her. Julián keeps this video as the greatest treasure, assures his mother Sindy Catalina Garzón.
Both father and son look forward to their reunion. Andrés Fernando will board a Latam Airlines flight from Medellín with a stopover in Bogotá to land in Miami in the afternoon. While Julián Andrés, says his mother, told him that he would go to bed early and try to sleep so that he could wake up better and be able to go down to the clinic entrance to receive his father. “It’s just that he hasn’t felt well. This is a roller coaster. Let’s hope he’s better because otherwise we’ll have to wait for him in the room, but Julián doesn’t want to,” Garzón explained to Trends Wide.
