As Boy Meets World alum Danielle Fishel prepares for her Dancing with the Stars debut, she received an unexpected piece of advice from a fellow ’90s TV icon and show veteran, Jodie Sweetin.
During an episode of Fishel’s podcast, “Danielle With The Stars,” the Full House star offered a surprising warning about the show’s elaborate costumes. Sweetin, a contestant in 2016, advised Fishel not to dance in her performance costume until the dress rehearsal on the day of the live show—a tip that caught the newcomer by surprise.
Fishel expressed her shock, assuming camera blocking rehearsals would be done in full wardrobe. “No,” Sweetin confirmed, explaining that contestants on her season only wore their costumes for the final dress rehearsal just hours before performing. “Let me tell you, it throws things off sometimes,” she cautioned.
Sweetin elaborated on the reasoning behind her warning, recalling a personal experience from her season. She described how a beaded samba dress, weighing an estimated 12 pounds, dramatically altered her movements. “I was used to turning with zero weight on me,” she explained, noting that the beading concentrated at the hips threw off her balance. “Things you may be doing in gym clothes, all of a sudden the costume makes it a little bit different.”
Sweetin competed on Season 22 with professional partner Keo Motsepe, finishing in eighth place. She praised Motsepe as a patient yet demanding teacher, highlighting the trust built between partners during the intense competition. Her season featured a cast including Mischa Barton and Ginger Zee, with model Nyle DiMarco ultimately winning the mirrorball trophy.
