Elon Musk, of conservative sympathy, presumes that Twitter benefited Lula in the Brazilian election

The owner of Twitter, Elon Muskbelieves it is “possible” that staff at the social media company gave preference to left-wing candidates during this year’s Brazilian elections, without providing evidence.

Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter on October 27, just days before the second round of the Brazilian presidential elections, in which the far-right Jair Bolsonaro was defeated by the leftist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“I have seen many worrying tweets about the recent elections in Brazil“, Musk wrote on Twitter when asked by a user about the possible “handling” of the elections by the company’s previous leadership.

“If those tweets are correct, it is possible that Twitter staff gave preference to left-wing candidates,” added the billionaire.

Bolsonaro hosted Musk at a meeting in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo earlier this year, when he called the US billionaire’s inauguration on Twitter a “breath of hope” and called him a “legend of freedom.”

Both Lula and Bolsonaro they used Twitter extensively during their campaigns. Some Bolsonaro allies – including the most voted candidate for the lower house of Congress, Nikolas Ferreira – had their accounts suspended by court order after the second round for questioning the election results.
