Charles Leclerc took pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix – and then crashed his Ferrari.
The Monaco resident clipped a barrier on the Swimming Pool exit and came to a thudding halt with 16 seconds remaining of qualifying in Monte Carlo.
The day’s running was called off and Leclerc held on to top sport, at least for now, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen second quickest and Valtteri Bottas third.

It remains to be seen whether Leclerc will be moved down the grid – his penalty if he requires certain new parts.
Mick Schumacher will start at the back of the grid after crashing on the exit of Casino Square in practice earlier in the day.

He veered off the track and hit the barriers hard, his Haas car a partial wreck. His machinery could not mended in time for qualifying.
The German appeared to be in tears as he was consoled by his team as he entered the garage. He was not badly hurt.
Lando Norris was fifth best for McLaren, while fellow Brit George Russell qualified 15th for Williams.
