FIFA confirmed in its statement that it would hold several virtual meetings with the federations of the countries organizing the World Cup (jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico), starting from the end of February, to evaluate stadiums in 23 candidate cities to host the tournament matches.
After that, the International Federation will begin direct consultations with the officials of the candidate cities from April this year
FIFA said: “Taking into account the ever-changing circumstances in relation to the Covid-19 epidemic, FIFA and the federations of the countries organizing the tournament aim to make inspection visits to the stadiums in the candidate cities from early July.”
FIFA will choose up to 16 stadiums from 23 that the three countries have submitted in the nomination file.
The 2026 World Cup will witness the participation of 48 teams for the first time in the history of the World Cup.
