File Locations

See the Map above or download it here for locations of Files found in the Village (excluding those found in the Prologue and Finale).

Below, you’ll find a list of each File in the game, where they’re located, if they’re easy to miss, and arranged in the order they can be found in the story.

Fridge Memo

The first file is located on the fridge on the first floor kitchen of the Winters home. Note: it must be read while you’re still carrying Rose, otherwise Mia will pull you into a cutscene to end the Prologue.

Old News Clipping

This file is located in the unused spare bedroom on the second floor of the Winters house, down the hall from where you put Rose to bed.

Ethan’s Diary

This file is located in the room beyond the bedroom where you put Rose to sleep, on a desk to the left as you enter.

Medical Checkup Report

This file is located just to the right of Ethan’s computer in the office room, inside a drawer you must open.

Mission Briefing

This File is easily missed, as it only appears among the wreckage of the car crash site just as the prologue ends.

Scribbled Note

This file can be found at almost any time once you enter the Village square, as it can be found in the first house on the left of where you first spoke to the old crone.

Goat of Warding Placard

This File is disguised as a placard, but can be found at almost any time, located below the small shrine that houses the first Goat of Warding, near the Maiden of War statue.

Dangerous Creature

While it can be hard to miss given the minute you have to admire the first room in Luiza’s house, you cannot return to this room once you leave, so be sure to check the small chair in the corner.

Guest Book

This file can be obtained at any point while exploring Castle Dimitrescu, and is found on a table in the Entrance Hall near the Lift room.

The Labyrinths

Another file that is hard to miss, but can only be read while exploring Castle Dimitrescu, it is located just to the right of The Duke in his Merchant’s Room.

Winemaking History

This file can be found at any point when exploring Castle Dimitrescu‘s second floor, on a table inside the Wine Room.

A Maid’s Diary

This file can be found at any point when exploring Castle Dimitrescu‘s dungeons, and is located just as you crash down to the basement to escape the first of Dimitrescu’s daughters.

Treatment Candidates

You can find this file down in the prison area, at a table that’s blocking the hallway of the prison.

Observation Report

You can locate this file on the other side of the prison passage from the previous file, located in a small medical cell.

A Cook’s Diary

This file can be found at any point during Castle Dimitrescu, located in the kitchen area after defeating the first of Dimitrescu’s daughters.

Alcina Dimitrescu’s Diary

This file can be found after encountering Lady Dimitrescu in her chambers, and it can be found on the large couch in the room.

Grand Chambermaid’s Notice

This file is located in the hallway leading to the upper Opera Hall, after unlocking it with Dimitrescu’s Key, look for it on the table by the windows.

Further Observations

Located not far from the previous file, you can find it in the upper floor of the Opera Hall at the far end of the room before the balcony.

Insect Observations Journal

This file can be found in the first floor of the Opera Hall, found on a table near the piano that holds the Iron Insignia Key.

Rumors of a Dagger

The last file in Castle Dimitrescu is located in the attic you can reach after solving the 5 Bells Puzzle. It is located in the main attic space on one of the far tables.

Craftsman’s Note

This file can be found after defeating Lady Dimitrescu, in the Save Point outside the tower. If you miss it, you can always return to it later once you have access to the Crank and river boat.

Leonardo’s Message

This file can be accessed once you have returned to the Village after Castle Dimitrescu. Enter the house with the newly opened gate south of the Maiden of War statue and check the green table.

Note on Luthier’s House

You can locate this file at any point after returning to the Village once you’ve cleared Castle Dimitrescu. Head down the road in East Old Town to defeat the Armored Lycan, and break the padlock off a large gate to find a locked house with a note next to it.

Eugen’s Diary

This file is hard to miss, as its sitting right next to a Key Item in the red chimney house you’re tasked to explore after getting back from Castle Dimitrescu.

Church Computer

While this file can be found at almost any time during your adventure, it will only appear back in the Village’s church once you return from Castle Dimitrescu.

Gardener’s Diary

This file can be located in the small hut on the hill above the Gardens only after you clear House Beneviento, but can be read anytime after in the room with the Save Point.

Vasile’s Final Testament

This file, located back in East Old Town, can only be gained once you return from House Beneviento. As soon as you are ambushed by the Varcolac werewolf creature, you’ll be thrown into a building with a dead body holding the note, which can be read at any point after.

The Reservoir and Giant Fish

This file can be missed as it can only be read during your exploration of the Reservoir, located inside the house near the boat that requires a key to use.

Changing the Cranks

Another file that can only be accessed after escaping Moreau for the first time, but cannot be accessed after defeating him. It is located up the path from the Reservoir Gatehouse to the first windmill – located in the front seat of an open truck.

Moreau’s Diary 1

A very easy file to miss, as it can only be found between using the Sluice Gate to drain the Reservoir, and dropping into Moreau’s boss arena. Just before his fight, you can enter a newly drained shack, and open a shelf on the right to find the note.

Moreau’s Diary 2

This file is hard to miss, but can only be obtained after you have defeated Moreau, but before leaving the Reservoir Mines via the lift. It’s located in Moreau’s chambers by the TV on a small stool.

Moreau’s Diary of Experiments

After leaving The Reservoir, you’ll find this file at any time by using the Crank to travel up into the mountain from the windmill to Moreau’s Lab. In the house on the right up the mountain, next to the M1851 Wolfsbane Revolver. you can find the file.

Analysis Results

This file can be located at any point after you have completed The Reservoir and obtained the Crank. Use it on the drawbridge below the Lone Road to access a boat, and take the boat all the way south to find a tunnel entrance going under the Ceremony Site to a computer with the file.

Ernest’s Diary

This file is located in an optional area to the left of the Stronghold entrance, but requires you to defeat a miniboss inside the mill. Once dead, enter the storehouse on the other side of the mill to find a note by piles of meat.

Officer’s Diary

This file is easily missed as its located on the floor of a cave in the dark, and cannot be returned to. After going down the long staircase past the initial large area in the Stronghold, sidle through a tunnel to find a Save Point before a miniboss, and the file will be on the floor nearby.

Experiment Notes

After clearing out The Stronghold and gaining the last flask, you can take a short boat ride. After getting off the boat, head down the stairwell to your left, past the cells, and this file will be on the table ahead of you

Development Note 1

This file is one of several that can only be found during the factory exploration. Early on after finding The Foundry, head through the powered down generator room and up some stairs at the far end to find a small storeroom with the Cog Design, as well as this file.

Development Note 2

Another file that can only be found during your exploration of The Factory, make your way up from floor B3 to B2 up through the giant grinder fans. When moving up to the big wind tunnel room above, you’ll find several tables with the note on one of them below the stairs.

Sturm

One of the files only found during The Factory, this one is located on level B1 after unlocking the door by the lift with Heisenberg’s Key. Once he starts taunting you about an upcoming fight, go through the first door to a supply room and find the note on the right.

Heisenberg’s Diary

This file can only be found after the Sturm boss fight. Once defeated, enter the next room, and locate a desk with a light in the far corner next to Heisenberg’s Cigar.

Chris’s Computer

This file is easily missed if you move to quickly after talking to Chris and interact with the self propelled artillery machine. Instead, look near the Save Point by the scrap to find a small laptop you can read.

Moreau’s Medical Report

One of four files located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a book found on the table just as you enter.

Dimitrescu’s Medical Report

One of four files located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a book found on the table just as you enter.

Heisenberg’s Medical Report

One of four files located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a book found on the table just as you enter.

Donna’s Medical Report

One of four files located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a book found on the table just as you enter.

Spencer’s Letter

One of several located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a letter you can find along the left wall further past the initial four files, between two photos.

Miranda’s Diary

One of several files located at the end of the first Finale sequence in Miranda’s Lab, it is a note on the far side of the center table you can find between several photos.
