French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that his country is determined to continue its support to Burkina Faso in the face of terrorism and extremism, which is witnessing an unprecedented increase in Burkina Faso more than five years ago.
In a press statement following a meeting with Roch Marc Christian Kabore, President of Burkina Faso, in the capital, Ouagadougou, Lordian stressed that his country is “determined to continue supporting Burkina Faso in the security field and in economic and social development policy.”
He pointed out that this visit to Ouagadougou is also a “visit of support” and support for the Burkinabe president, after his re-election to a second presidential term last November.
Le Drian said, “We have achieved success in the three border region (the border area between Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger),” adding that “we will soon have an opportunity to meet with the G5 Sahel countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad) and international partners should consider continuing the commitments made. We made it to ourselves, as a summit of the Sahel countries is expected to be held in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, next February.
It should be noted that Burkina Faso, in addition to Mali and Niger, is one of the countries hardest hit by terrorist attacks, which have spread since the unrest that occurred in neighboring Mali since 2012.
