The German Federal Ministry of Justice handed over the interrogation protocols to Russian dissident Alexei Navalny to Russia by the attorney general’s office in Berlin, without providing any medical information about him.
The German agency “Deutsche Welle” quoted a representative of the Ministry of Justice, that “4 official Russian inquiries about Navalny were answered.”
“The federal government proceeds from the assumption that the Russian government will now immediately take all necessary steps to investigate the Navalny case … This crime must be investigated in Russia,” the ministry’s representative said.
He added, “Germany has provided answers to all Russia’s inquiries that were addressed to it in August and September 2020.”
Russia has repeatedly requested data and evidence on the Navalny poisoning case and has warned Germany that it is responsible for defamation in the case of the Russian dissident.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Justice indicated that Navalny was questioned by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Berlin as a “victim”, and that “data on his health status, according to German legal standards, are subject to strict protection.”
Earlier, Navalny announced his intention to return to Russia on January 17th.
The case of the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny
Navalny’s health deteriorated last August 20, when he was on a passenger plane flying from the city of Tomsk in northeastern Russia to the capital, Moscow.
The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, central Siberia, and Navalny was taken to a local hospital in a coma.
Several days later, the Russian government accepted Navalny’s family’s request to take him to Germany for treatment.
After his arrival in Germany, Navalny and a number of western countries, including Germany, claimed that he was poisoned with the use of “Novichok” by Russian Federal Security Forces.
For its part, the Russian government categorically denied this story, stressing that the case was completely fabricated and that the results of the tests that Navalny underwent in Omsk, Russia, did not contain any indications of his poisoning.
Moscow held Germany responsible for refusing to cooperate in a joint investigation of this case, suggesting that Western intelligence services would be behind its fabrication.
And the Kremlin declared that there were no restrictions preventing Navalny from returning to Russia.
