German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas expressed his rejection of any withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, before the conclusion of peace negotiations between the Kabul government and the Taliban.
During the “Europe 2021” digital conference of a group of German newspapers, the minister of the “Social Democratic Party” in Berlin said on Tuesday: “We must link the two processes, the withdrawal of foreign forces and the peace negotiations.”
He added that it is not necessary to adhere to an exaggerated obedience to the end of April deadline, in reference to the promise that former US President Donald Trump made to the Taliban to leave all foreign forces in Afghanistan by his solutions, and said: “If peace negotiations are successful, then the moment will come to withdraw foreign forces. From there. “
Maas said that the peace negotiations are “sluggish,” noting that they will not end by the end of next April.
He said, “We are concerned that the Taliban may use this as an excuse to exit the negotiations and search for a military solution in this conflict.”
The German diplomat stressed the need to reach a joint solution with the United States for the withdrawal of troops and stated that the new American government had offered this matter.
