(Trends Wide) — Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison following her conviction on sex-trafficking conspiracy charges, among others. Maxwell was accused of carrying out a years-long plan with her longtime confidante Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls.
Maxwell addressed the victims at sentencing and apologized.
US Attorney Damian Williams thanked the victims for having the courage to share their stories.
“Today’s sentence holds Ghislaine Maxwell accountable for perpetrating heinous crimes against children. This phrase sends a strong message that no one is above the law and it is never too late for justice. We again express our gratitude to the victims of Epstein and Maxwell for their courage in coming forward, testifying at trial, and sharing their stories as part of today’s sentencing,” she said in a statement.
