Prince Christian of Denmark enthralled crowds outside Amalienborg Castle in Copenhagen this morning as he celebrated his 18th birthday. Tonight, he will commemorate the milestone with a grand gala attended by members of various European royal families. Prior to the festivities, well-wishers gathered in Copenhagen while the royal family shared heartwarming childhood photographs of Christian. These previously unseen images, captured by Crown Princess Mary and Prince Frederik, depicted private memories such as trips to Paris and Australia, skiing, playing tennis, and special moments with his late grandfather, Prince Henrik. The Danish Royal House also released an official birthday portrait taken by his mother, along with a schedule of events. In honor of Prince Christian, flags have been raised throughout Denmark on October 15th, which has now been declared an official flag day. State buildings and state ships will henceforth fly the Dannebrog on his birthday. The gala preparations include extravagant flower displays, the use of the royal family’s historic tableware, and a live television broadcast. The Prince reportedly requested that guests refrain from bringing presents and that photos are not allowed. The guest list for this glamorous event is extensive and includes other European royals, as well as notable young people and representatives from youth organizations. Hundreds of invitations were sent out from Amalienborg to commemorate His Royal Highness Prince Christian’s 18th birthday.
