This year’s bear market has mauled many companies, particularly once-highflying tech and growth stocks like Nvidia (NVDA) and Meta Platforms (META). The resulting sector rotation has put energy stocks and chemicals in the spotlight.

This stock screen highlights 47 companies expecting at least 100% earnings growth in 2022 or their current fiscal year.
Oil stocks and others from the energy sector dominate the list. Cenovus Energy (CVE) leads, with analysts expecting 1,230% EPS growth. Valero Energy (VLO), Berry (BRY) and HF Sinclair (DINO) all have forecasts over 700% for the full year.
Others continuing to prime big earnings estimates include Civitas Resources (CIVI), Murphy Oil (MUR), Antero Resources (AR), Earthstone Energy (ESTE), Occidental Petroleum (OXY) and Marathon Oil (MRO), just to name a few.
President Joe Biden’s passing of the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes a focus on renewable energy, could brighten the outlook for solar energy leader Daqo New Energy (DG). Analysts expect Daqo to generate 181% EPS growth in 2022.
While semiconductor stocks like Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have sold off again, the chemical sector has been fertile ground for this list. Sociedad Quimica y Minera (SQM) leads the chemical names, with calls for 514% earnings growth this year.
Other chemical stocks concocting estimates of big gains include Albemarle (ALB), CF Industries (CF) and Nutrien (NTR).

It’s no coincidence that the latest buys by top-performing money managers showcase many of the names on this top earnings growth screen that have triple-digit EPS growth estimates for this year.
On both lists you’ll find Chevron (CVX), ExxonMobil (XOM), Diamondback Energy (FANG), Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD), Earthstone and several more.

As a producer of lithium — vital to the electric-vehicle revolution — SQM has garnered attention, getting profiled in the IBD New America on May 27 and the IBD Stock Of The Day on Aug. 8.
Energy and chemicals are not the only sectors represented. Roofing leader Carlisle (CSL), featured on July 22, also makes the cut. With estimates of 125% EPS growth this year, diversified building products firm Griffon (GFF) has also molded a position on both screens.
