Today, Saturday, the Court of Cassation ruled to reject the appeals of 14 defendants in the case known in the media as the “Egypt Station Fire”, against the sentences issued against them by the Cairo Criminal Court, with strict imprisonment from 3 to 15 years.

The court also sentenced defendants Ayman Al-Shahat, Atef Nasr, Mahmoud Fathi Khalil, and Mahmoud Hamdi Tawfiq to 10 years imprisonment, and 7 years imprisonment for accused Ayman Ahmed Al-Adas, Sameh Gerges, Yahya Saad Al-Din Al-Kashef, Adel Saif Youssef, and Mustafa Abdel-Hamid.
The verdict included 5 years imprisonment for the accused Mr. Abul Fotouh, 3 years imprisonment for the accused Mahdi Muhammad Mahdi, and two years imprisonment for the accused Muhammad Abdel Aziz.
The prosecution charged the defendants with the charge of negligence and gross breach of what the assets of their job imposed on them by violating the maneuvering work manual and the operating safety regulations issued by their employer, and forging the signature in the attendance and departure book of the workers and the foremen of the maneuver.
Investigations revealed that the accused Alaa Fathi Abu Al-Ghar, 48 years old, the driver of the tractor (locomotive), tampered with the equipment and devices of trains and their movement on the lines, by disrupting one of the safety devices (the dead man’s device) supplied with the tractor, his driving number 2302, which made him lose his utility, which is Stopping the tractor after escaping from the crowd without its leader, and manipulating the movement of the arm of the reflector, which enabled him to extract that arm from its position if it was in the position of movement, and this resulted in death and injury.
The prosecution added that the second defendant Ayman Al-Shahat, 43 years old, a tractor driver, committed the crime of forgery by signing the page of the drivers and assistants distribution book on locomotives, that he forged the signature of the fourth defendant, Ayman Ahmed Al-Adas, 54 years old, a tractor driver, stating that he had received his duties. Contrary to the truth, as an assistant to the tractor driver 2305 to complete his work to legalize the running of the tractor without permission.
The prosecution charged the third defendant, Atef Nasr, 46, an inventory clerk, with the charge of forging the pages of the attendance book and leaving the maneuvering workers and foremen, for placing two signatures attributable to the eighth defendant, Mustafa Abdel Hamid Nassar, 54, a maneuvering observer, by proving the signature of his presence on the scheduled dates to start his duties His work to give legitimacy to the observation work in the workshops.
