In order for these aircraft to carry out reconnaissance missions, they must be equipped with modern electronic reconnaissance equipment.
The source stated that the two aircraft could be used to monitor the results of testing various types of weapons, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the exercises and maneuvers.
The two Tu-214ON air traffic controllers were built in 2011 and 2013, on the basis of the Tu-204 airliner, and in September 2018, the two aircraft received international certification for carrying out surveillance operations under the “Open Sky” treaty.
