Over the course of more than seven decades, Blue Peter has become not only a beloved children’s TV show but also a significant part of British culture. However, concerns have arisen among staff that the show may be cancelled following the departure of three presenters in just over a year. Insiders have described the show as a “very unhappy, sinking ship,” known for its craft projects that extensively use “sticky-back plastic.” Popular host Mwaksy Mudenda recently left the show, leaving just two presenters to anchor it for the first time in over 50 years. There are also concerns about declining viewership, as the show’s broadcast on digital channel CBBC struggles to compete with platforms like YouTube Kids and computer games. The format has always consisted of three presenters, but it appears that Henry the dog has taken on a larger role on the show. Losing three presenters in such a short period has raised worries among the crew that Blue Peter is in decline and has not been able to keep up with the changing times. Mudenda’s departure follows the loss of Richie Driss in March and Adam Beales in July 2022. Despite these concerns, the BBC has stated that there are currently no plans to cancel the show, as it continues to be enjoyed by audiences on the CBBC channel and iPlayer. The show has a history of launching successful careers in the entertainment industry, and the BBC is pleased to see their presenters move on to new opportunities.
