Paris. Iran publicly executed yesterday, December 12, a second convicted for his participation in the protests that have shaken the country since September, despite international outrage for applying the death penalty to those involved in the demonstrations.
Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, was sentenced to death by a court in the city of Mashhad (northeast) for killing two members of the security forces and injuring four people.
He was hanged in public and not inside the prison, reported Mizan Online, the information agency for the judiciary.
This is the second protest-related execution, following the hanging on Thursday of Mohsen Shekari, another youth of the same age convicted of attacking and wounding a paramilitary.
“The public execution of a young protester, 23 days after his arrest, is another serious crime committed by the rulers of the Islamic Republic and a significant escalation in the level of violence against protesters,” said Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, director of the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), based in Norway.
The United States condemned the execution and considered that these death sentences show that the regime of the Islamic Republic fears its people.
