An emergency official in the southern province of Khorasan told Iranian TV that Iran had sent 10 firefighting vehicles to put out the fire, in response to a request from the governor of an Afghan province.
Ali Akbar Mazidi, head of the Iranian Maherod border crossing, told the semi-official Iranian Student News Agency: “Three tanks containing 150 tons are burning … The fire did not reach Iranian territory and we expect it to be contained within another 30 minutes.”
In mid-February, a fire broke out at another Afghan customs post on the border with Iran, wounding about 60 people, as hundreds of fuel trucks exploded, disrupting supplies and damaging millions of dollars.
